Then I get a moment when I see the stats on people who have won the lottery where the short term happiness brought sometimes long term problems and regrets. I wouldn't turn down Aunt Bertha's money but I guess I would be protective over it. Travel would be number one, buy the home designed with lots of windows and plenty of ocean in front of me. Buy a large swatch of land some developer wanted for housing and leave all the natural habitat fully intact. Give to charities or start one. Oh, and redo my whole wardrobe...note to self require big walk in closet. Thanks for the links to lectures, that was an added bonus. I get tired of people with money, for instance Oprah saying that money doesn't buy happiness and we have to look within ourselves for what will truly make us happy. Money used wisely frees us to set different goals. What is important is that we make decisions that speak to who we really are. It is from that place we can start to lead a genuine and happy life. By the way if your unknown relative dies before mine I'll come and help you look after those unwanted dogs. I think that you nailed it when you used the word freedom. I would travel a LOT if I had an Aunt Bertha who left me a pile of cash! There are so many countries that I'd like to see...most of Europe, Africa, Australia, South America...I'd be gone for a long, long time! I'd have awesome photography equipment with me too and when I got home and didn't have to work for a living, I'd definitely consider taking some special interest courses or opening a home for unwanted dogs on a country estate.
